I Wish
Lauren Brower
I made promises I couldn't keep,
I bailed out when in too deep.
I wish I'd given my trials to prayer,
Or seen the answers already there.
I wish I'd cherished more my youth,
I wish I'd not ignored the truth.
I wish I'd watched my dollar bills,
And not spent them on today's big thrills.
I wish I hadn't squandered talent,
I wish I'd sought out truth and balance.
I wish I hadn't thrown my words,
Or allowed myself a pity splurge.
I wish I'd laughed more everyday,
And treasured life in every way.
I wish I'd known the love so rare,
Like that of those who are free of care.
I wish I'd given more of me,
Since loving others sets us free.
But its not too late to learn from life,
And find meaning through tumult and strife.
Learn from me and my regrets,
And you may have fulfillment yet.
Knowing my wishes with you have power,
I can rest as my seedlings flower.
Praying my words will still speak for me,
I take the steps toward eternity.
